The Vasco da Gama University School (EUVG) is born from the will of its founding entity, the Vasco da Gama Cognitive Association (ACVG), which has the legal nature of a non-profit association.

In the year 2000, the founding entity of EUVG initiated two areas of activity - Higher Education and Vocational Training, as it was the purpose of its founders to create an integrated educational project with various levels of education. This project evolved towards the privileged development of the private higher education component. The creation of EUVG began, which would culminate in public recognition and subsequent institution through Decree-Law No. 5/2001, of January 10. In September 2000 (academic year 2000/2001), EUVG began its activities in higher university education in the fields of Veterinary Medicine, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. It was the first, and for many years the only, private higher education institution in Portugal to offer the Veterinary Medicine course. Currently, it remains the only private school for Veterinary Medicine in the large Central Region of the country, corresponding to the NUTII (Official Nomenclature of Territorial Units).
